Skutz Creek Parcel- First Nations Land Transfer

Lake Cowichan, BC

Project Description:

This project was completed for the Ministry of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation. This project saw the BC Government return a 312-hectare parcel of land returned to the Lyackson First Nation and Cowichan Tribes communities. Our role in this project was to retrace the boundaries of this large parcel and verify the bounds of the property. This meant locating very old survey monuments and verifying that they are still in the location that they were initially established, or to reestablish them if they were lost or disturbed. This is very relevant as the parcel in question for the Outdoor Education Centre is a parcel of similar age, and has no official survey plan registered delineating its bounds, only a Crown grant. Similar to the requested staking of boundaries requested for this project, we had to set marker post at 100m increments (which is quite dense given the size of the parcel) demarking the intermediate boundaries between official survey monuments.
